Millennial Book Club In-Person
The Millennial Book Club is a book group that meets on the first Thursday of the month at 6 p.m. at Black Oak Kitchen & Drinks, unless otherwise noted.
At our October meeting, we will be discussing:
Sold by Patricia McCormick
“Thirteen-year-old Lakshmi, though poor, enjoys her life until the Himalayan monsoons wash away her family's crops and she is sold to a brothel in India by her stepfather. She remembers her mother's wisdom, "Simply to endure is to triumph," until the day comes that she can reclaim her life.”
Our October meeting is the week before Banned Books Week (Oct. 5-11, 2025). To celebrate and exercise our freedom to read, we chose a banned book for this meeting. I sent out a Google form with a list of the Top 10 Most Challenged Books of 2024 and asked book club members to choose their top three. There was a three-way tie between All Boys Aren’t Blue by George M. Johnson, The Perks of Being A Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky, and Sold by Patricia McCormick. So, I put all three titles in a hat and randomly selected Sold by Patricia McCormick. I look forward to reading and discussing this book with you and I encourage you all to read more banned books in general!
